This was one of the Very first pieces of Amber that I had ever carved long ago .This particular piece was in a consignment shop in north Daytona beach/Ormand beach when it was stolen ,that made me very sad ,may the thieves hang from the tree that this carving represents. Needles to say that was the last time i ever left my work with someone else to sell, never again!

very cool, how does working with the amber compare with the bone and horn you seems to work with most often?

like working a hard crystalline resin, it fractures very easy and if its not very good quality it will go to pieces in your hands. If its not full fossilized, ie copal, then it will melt if you dont have water dripping on it as you carve it.

it can be a very fun material to carve but also absolute hell if you dont know what your doing.

Woow! That is so nice! Some people have no respect =( Maybe you could replicate it? Or make another similar? I know it wouldn't replace the original though...

ah the difficulty is in getting a large enough piece of amber. amber is VERY expensive now and just the cost to acquire the right size and quality of amber would be like 3-4 hundred dollars ,for just the rough chunk!
